How long is the junior olympic volleyball season:

Junior Olympic Volleyball season starts with tryouts November 1, 2008 and ends May 3, 2009.
If you are playing on the Elite team that Qualifies to Nationals, your season continues in June.
Can you tell me about your 8 weeks programs:
Memphis Metro is the only club in Memphis area, that is offering to our young participants 8 weeks program. This program is designed for 10 and under players, who are trying to find their way into the great game of volleyball. We realized that as a young athlete you might be involved in many activities such as basketball, softball, soccer... and we would like to give you the opportunity to improve your volleyball skills at the right time for you. We are offering you a 8 weeks long program where you will practice once a week and play one scrimmage match at the end of 8 weeks.
You can choose from one of the two sessions:
January 4, 2009-February 22, 2009
March 8, 2009- April 26, 2009
Can I make it on the team if I am just a beginner ?

We have several teams in every age group category:
National Team - players with outstanding volleyball/athletic skills
Team travels to out of town tournaments, to Junior Olympic Qualifiers and to the National Championship in June/July
Elite Team - players with considerable club experience. Team travels to out of town tournaments and participate is some local tournaments
Travel Team - players with less experience. Team participates in Regional tournaments.

Do I have to go through tryouts ?
Yes. All players must participate in tryouts in order to make the team. Tryouts are design not to eliminate the players but to help recognized players potential and place them with the team best suited for their progress.
How often do you practice?
Our teams practice twice a week. There will be specialized positions clinics on Saturdays if not playing at the tournament. There is always a team and a schedule for your daughter.
Where is your practice facility?
Our training facility is conveniently located at 3131 Appling Rd., Bartlett, TN 38134. Turn on Appling Rd. just across from Milano's Pizza.
Can I tryout for several volleyball clubs?
There is no limit on how many clubs you can tryout for.
When you go to tryouts you are just checking if the volleyball club/ players /coaches are right for you. Just because you went to the tryout it does not obligate you to the club. Each volleyball club offer a different program for different athletes. Make sure you ask the right questions, before signing up. After you sign up transfers are almost impossible.
Why parents meeting during the tryouts?
Parents meeting is one of the most important part of the tryouts. Choosing the right club for your daughter is your number one priority and you want to know every detail about the new season.
What should the parents know after tryouts parent meeting:
The level at which a prospective club competes. It would be frustrating to join the club that travels to the USA Junior Olympic Qualifiers and national events if you have no interest in traveling or lack the experience needed to play at that level. By the same token, being the marquee player on the team that only plays in local tournaments may be flattering, but it isn't likely to help you grow and develop as a player.
What is the training fee and what does it cover?
How many practices a week and specific times and dates?
How long do practices typically last?
When do practice begin?
How many coaches per team?
How many players per team?
Who is going to be coaching my daughter's team?
Does the club offer specialty practices (setter, MB, etc.)?
How many local tournaments?
How many Junior Olympic Qualifiers (Crossroads, Lone Star, Northern Lights, etc.)?
How many out of town tournaments?

Why we have to pre-register with Metro for tryouts:
In some age categories we have over 100 players trying out and we need to know how many coaches and evaluators we will need to run the tryouts efficiently. We need to prepare the forms, numbers, T-shirts, and other necessary supplies. As well the pre-registration will help us to prepare smooth Velocity evaluation before the tryouts. We like to be organized...
All these questions need to be answered before you sign up with the volleyball club of your choice.
