Katie&Kat Sand Champs!

Posted June 8, 2014

Katie and Kat had a good day at the AAU qualifier, Cocoa Beach, FL. They came in 12th out of 30.  They played against clubs that play year around and showed the true Memphis Metro spirit.  Most teams had 2 and three coaches with them. This tournament has really grown and you can tell that sand volleyball at the amateur level is growing by leaps and bounds. Congratulations on representing Metro well!
Bellow are pics from Nashville tournament.

Top of the crop play at Metro!

Posted March 27, 2014

History is being made with the Metro 14-1 team qualifying to go to the
National competition by earning a bid at the “Big South” National
Qualifier in Atlanta, Georgia recently. No other Memphis team has ever qualified to go to Nationals by winning a bid in a National Qualifying tournament. The National Competition will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota June 24-27, and the Memphis Metro girls will compete in the 14-year-old USA Division among 24 teams qualified from different USA Volleyball qualifiers.
The National USAV tournament is like the “Super Bowl” of volleyball, and will be an experience the girls will remember for a lifetime. Memphis Metro is proud to represent Memphis and the Delta Region on a national level. Team members live in Memphis, Cordova, Fayette County, and Marion, Arkansas.
“This team’s hard work, desire to win and to be a champion is the reason why they have achieved this accomplishment,” said team coach Jitka Okolicany, President and CEO, Memphis Metro Volleyball Club.

At the same Atlanta The Big South qualifier Memphis Metro 13 Elite team finished 9th in 13 Open Division and Memphis Metro 15 Elite team finished 21st in 15 American Division. No other team from Memphis reached better finish in any division there. Great work girls, coaches and supporting parents.

All results from the Big South qualifier can be browsed here.

12 Elite crowned at Delta Region Championship

Posted March 27, 2014

Memphis Metro 12 Elite competed for 2 days at Conway, AR to reach championship game and win it all last weekend. Here are some observations from the bleachers:

A: Since you couldn't be there to see it in person, I hope you won't mind my sharing a recount of the semi-finals (it really was our toughest challenge this weekend).  The Aces team was a force to be reckoned with!  They had clobbered the competition the entire weekend.  We knew they were going to be our toughest competition but that we could beat them if we brought "our game".

Our girls lost the first game, 25-23.  In the second game, our girls fell behind and were facing the match point at 24-19.  They rallied back in Memphis Metro style (not to be defeated without fighting to the end) and claimed victory at 26-24, forcing a third game.
For game three, Memphis Metro won the serve.  We took the first point, but lost the second.  Fortunately, we immediately took back the serve at 2-1 and  served the next 13 points, several of which were aces, to secure the win for the team.    Aces took two time outs and made at least one substitution to try to ice our server and knock off her concentration so they could get back into the game. But we kept our focus through it all and won.  What an experience for a 12 year old!  It was truly incredible.

B: Ok we can't stop talking about the games today. We have been talking about how everyone shined at some point.  These girls really dug deep and deserved this win.  I am so proud of each and everyone of them. I am also proud of their good sportsmanship and how they treat each other. A big thank you to the coaches and to all the team moms and Dads for snacks and all the organization that it takes to help a team be successful.
